Thiruvananthapuram: Ever since Mullappally Ramachandran took over as KPCC president with his team of three working presidents, there has been a new found vigour within the party.

But it failed to keep the three-time extended deadline for forming booth committees which ended on Monday. Many also feel it's unable to act swiftly on Sabarimala issue.

The leaders were vocal on many issues, except M.I. Shahnavas, one of the working residents, who is not keeping well. The Wayanad MP is resting at home in Ernakulam after a prolonged hospitalisation in Mumbai.

A section of leaders had felt he was replacing Shanimol Usman, another leader from his community, at the top, as she was not in good books either groups and the AICC leadership.

The Political Affairs Committee had initially put the deadline for booth committee formation on Oct 20. But when the DCC presidents demanded an extension by another five more days, the president relented.

"But later it was again extended to Oct 29. Now the DCCs hope to complete it in a week. Already the time is over to hand over the final list of booth committee members. So if a name has to be changed in the booth committee list, substitution is only possible," K. Muraleedharan MLA told DC.

DCCs are currently busy organising UDF's political meetings and preparations for Youth Congress elections, giving them little time to concentrate on booth committee formation.

"YC membership deadline is falling on Nov. 19. We are unable to concentrate exclusively on booth committee formation as lots of party programmes announced by the KPCC leadership are happening back to back giving us little time to concentrate on strengthening the foundation of the party," said a DCC president.
