Rs 8.5 crore renovation for Mavoor pumping stn
The renovation work is expected to address that woe forever.
Kozhikode: The head works section of pumping station of Kerala Water Authority (KWA) at Mavoor is all set to get major facelift through Rs 8.5 crore worth renovation work. The construction of a small bridge across the Cherupuzha River at Thengilakadavu to lay two 750 mm pipelines is the major work under the renovation project. Repair of treatment plant and the laying of new pipeline for water distribution from Kozhikode Comtrust to Mankavu bridge are the other works.
“At present pipe lines are laid under water at Cherupuzha river. It is difficult to trace out and plug the leakages of the pipe since it is under water. The demand to lay new pipes above the river is a long pending one,” says Kunnamangalam MLA P.T.A Raheem.
Currently two primo pipelines are under water which was pitted decades back. Besides, high density polyethylene pipes were laid three years back in the river, to carry drinking water.
“The second important work is to renovate the 36 MLD capacity treatment plant. Rs 4.5 crore has been earmarked for the plant alone,” explained the MLA.
The leakages in the pipeline carrying drinking water to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital and Kozhikode city is a routine affair ca-using much hardships to the scores of patients and bystanders at medical college hospital. The renovation work is expected to address that woe forever.
