Hyderabad: Sri Chaitanya Junior College bus mows down its own student
The 17-year-old lived with her maternal aunt in the city.
Hyderabad: Seventeen-year-old Rekula Ramya who was studying in intermediate first year at Sri Chaitanya Junior College, was knocked down and killed by a bus belonging to her college while crossing the road in Kukatpally on Monday morning.
Death was said to be instantaneous as she suffered a severe head injury.
According to the Kukatpally police, Ramya, daughter of R. Parameshwar and Chandrakala of Kattedan, lived with her maternal aunt in Jagadgirigutta as it was closer to her college.
At about 8 am on Monday, Ramya got down from a bus at Kukatpally bus stop and was crossing the road at a zebra crossing a bus belonging to Sri Chaitanya Junior College hit her.
The bus driver was immediately stopped by the public and handed over to the Kukatpally police.
Kukatpally sub-inspector J. Narayan Singh said, “The negligence of the bus driver was evident. He did not stop the bus though the signal was red. The girl died on the spot.”
Ramya’s body was sent for autopsy to Gandhi Hospital mortuary and handed over to her parents later. A case has been registered against the bus driver, Praveen, for causing death due to negligence.
