Ooty: Security up on Nilgiris border

Police in the hills, the STF and also the Naxal Special Duty wing police stationed on the Nilgiris border have started visiting the jungle hamlets.

Ooty: In the wake of the grim gunbattle with Maoists by Kerala police in Agali limits on the Kerala border, police in Nilgiris district have stepped up vigil and intensified vehicle checks at the hill borders to check for any infiltration of Maoists into the hills here.

They have intensified combing operations in the jungles along the western Nilgiris bordering Kerala against the backdrop of the feared Maoist resurgence in the jungles on the Kerala border.

Police in the hills, the STF and also the Naxal Special Duty wing police stationed on the Nilgiris border have started visiting the jungle hamlets, especially, in the Geddai and Kinnakorai limits in the Kundah border which are close to Agali limits in neighbouring state, where Kerala police gunned down suspected Maoists on Monday, to gather information. They are crisscrossing the challenging jungle terrains in Gudalur, Pandalur in Gudalur limits and Geddai and  Upper Bhavani limits in the Kundah slopes along the Nilgiris-Kerala border.
