Gurmeet Singh takes charge as VC of Pondicherry University
Prof. Singh called on Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, who is also the chief rector of the university.
Puducherry: Gurmeet Singh, the newly appointed Vice Chancellor (VC) of Pondicherry Central University assumed office on Wednesday. Union HRD Ministry had issued a notification last week appointing Mr Singh, a professor of chemistry at Delhi University, as the seventh Vice-Chancellor of the university,.
Prof. Singh acknowledged and thanked Anisa Basheer Khan, who was serving as the VC in charge, for her services rendered to Pondicherry University.
Pondicherry University was functioning without a full time VC for nearly two years after the government sacked Chandra Krishnamurthy from the post for committing academic fraud.
A renowned academic administrator and an internationally reputed expert in the field of corrosion science and smart materials, Prof. Singh began his academic career as Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the Department of Chemistry, Delhi University, in 1976 and rose to become a full-fledged professor 20 years ago.
Prof. Singh called on Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, who is also the chief rector of the university. Calling it as a most needed appointment, the Lt Governor said that she is planning to work together with the Vice Chancellor to co-opt youth in social engineering and as well as interns in social administration.
