Chennai: Sadiq Batcha's kin held for fraud

Based on their complaints, police picked up the two and arrested after enquiry.

Chennai: Sleuths of Chennai city central crime branch on Thursday arrested two people including the brother-in-law of Sadiq Batcha, who was found dead at his house in Chennai in 2011 and involved in the 2G spectrum scam case, in connection with a cheating case on Thursday.

Police identified the arrested as M. Aasife, 31, native of Perambalur and M. Kevin, 46, of West Saidapet. Aasife is the brother of Saddiq Batcha’s wife. Kevin had floated more than half a dozen companies involving in real estate and solar power and he had made Aasife as director at one of the companies.  The duo had allegedly cheated Arul of Tondiarpet to the tune of Rs 30 lakh and also cheated another businessman Newman, 56, native of Tiruchi to the tune of Rs 1.75 crore. Kevin and Aasife had promised them high return on their investment. As they didn't get any return, the victims approached the police.

Based on their complaints, police picked up the two and arrested after enquiry. The two had been remanded to judicial custody.
