SIT may bring Tunda to Hyderabad to face trial
Case filed against him in 1998 for waging war against India.
HYDERABAD: The special investigation team is planning to start the trial in a conspiracy case involving Syed Abdul Karim alias Tunda, an alleged Lakshkar-e-Taiba bomb expert.
The city police registered a case against him in 1998 for waging war against India. He was arrested by the special cell of the Delhi police in August 2013 at the Indo-Nepal border.
The police had registered a case against Tunda under various sections of the Arms Act, Explosives Substances Act, Passport Act and the Foreigners Act.
In the chargesheet, the police said, “ISI activities are going on in order to wage war against the government to create unrest in India and cause damage to internal security of India and to the Hindus and their properties on a large scale.”
After his arrest, the police had brought Tunda to the city in October 2013 and produced him before the court. Later, he was taken back to Delhi where he is facing a terror-related case. A total of 37 cases, including two bomb blast cases, are pending against him.
Mr Avinash Mohanthy, DCP, detective department , said that the police is likely to bring him to the city again. “Otherwise we are exploring the option of conducting the trial through video conference,” the official said.
The police had already filed the chargesheet in the case and the trial has started for other accused.
