Hyderabad: Regular checks help catch drunk drivers
Bikers topped the list, followed by cars, said the police commissioner.
Hyderabad: With the most number of pubs falling under Cyberabad commissionerate, the drunken driving cases increased from 13,624 in 2017 to 14,782 cases in 2018. Bikers topped the list, followed by cars, said the police commissioner.
Regular drives against drunken driving, autorickshaw overloading, minor driving, dangerous driving, footpath encroachments and so on are being conducted.
The Divisional Enforcement Teams (DET) formed in May 2018 focus on these aspects and ensure road safety. The Cyberabad commissionerate comprises three zonal offices.
“The DET has dedicated teams spread across the commissionerate, who examine the basic and core traffic problems causing issues on the roads. The idea to examine traffic related issues closely were started due to rising accidents,” said Cyberabad commissioner of police V.C. Sajjanar.
In the 12,782 registered cases in 2018 for drunken driving, 4,203 violators were jailed while in 2017, 3,180 were jailed in 13,624 cases.
