KSRTC Boosts Driver Safety with Thermo-Flasks
KSRTC takes proactive steps to enhance passenger safety, providing thermo flasks to drivers.
Bengaluru: As many as 1,600 drivers attached to Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to get good quality 500 ml thermo flasks to carry tea/coffee with them during night routes. The move by the KSRTC to provide drivers with thermo flasks is aimed at refreshments of drivers to enhance passenger safety and the thermo flasks have been introduced by the KSRTC in its 15 divisions.
The move to introduce thermo flasks by KSRTC is based on a recent study which threw light on accidents which was higher involving the KSRTC buses during the early morning hours specifically between 3 am to 4 am and it was felt to refresh the drivers operating during these hours, making the Transport Corporation to introduce thermo flasks for drivers.
It was also noted that drivers needing refreshments at early morning hours had limited options of hotels or refreshments along their routes and a provision to carry thermo flasks has been made by the officials concerned.
A statement from KSRTC on Saturday stated that provision to carry thermo flasks would enable drivers to refresh themselves adequately, enhance their alertness and safer operation of vehicles ultimately contributing to the safe journeys of passengers.
In another move by the KSRTC, with effect from Monday, financial relief to the accident victims who lose their lives while travelling in KSRTC buses has been hiked from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
To provide additional relief to the kith and kin of the deceased, KSRTC will collect Re 1 from passengers travelling in KSRTC buses with ticket value of Rs 50 to Rs 99 and Rs 2 will be collected from passengers with a ticket value of Rs 100 and above. However, no accident relief fund contribution will be collected from passengers travelling with ticket value of Rs 1 to Rs 49.
