Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police and Telangana Congress leaders had a face off in front of the UoH campus on Saturday when the cops objected to the protest by senior leaders at the main gate. Police arrested PCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy and other leaders. The leaders had come to the campus as Rahul Gandhi was staging a hunger strike inside UoH.
The leaders and protesters were taken to Chandanagar police station and kept there till evening. The Congress leaders came to UoH at around 12 am in connection with the Rohith Vemula agitation. They demanded the removal of BJP Union ministers Smriti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya.
As they sat on the road the police asked them to move. However, the leaders objected. After a scuffle police arrested and took them away.
“They were not allowed to sit there. We had to take them into preventive custody to remove the blockade,” said a senior police official from Cyberabad. However, the leaders were later let off by the police.
