Daesh links: More terror suspects to be deported
The trio now in National Investigation Agency custody
Bhatkal: The 34 year old terror suspect Adnan Hasan Damudi who was deported from the UAE on January 28 along with Sheikh Azhar Al Islam Abdul Sattar Sheikh and Mohammed Farhan Mohammed Rafiq Shaikh — from Jammu and Kashmir and Mumbra, Thane respectively, for alleged links with Daesh, may be the first of a wave of terror suspects from India, and Karnataka whom the UAE authorities have in custody.
The trio are now being held by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
“Adnan had gone to Dubai three years ago along with his father. Though the father and son lived separately Adnan was in touch with his father Mohammed Hussain, who is working as a realtor in Dubai. Six months ago he stopped communicating and that’s when Hussain lodged a missing complaint with the Dubai police. He was informed that Adnan was arrested for his alleged Daesh involvement. Adnan’s mother lives in Bhatkal with her daughter.
“She was told that Adnan was arrested for being an active Daesh member and is relieved that he has been brought back to India. She is convinced that he will soon be released.” said an official source.
Adnan is a commerce graduate from Dharwad University and is in his mid-thirties. More than a year ago he allegedly met Mohammed Shafi Armar, also from Bhatkal, who is now heading Daesh’s anti India propaganda.
Armar told Adnan to recruit Indians following which the latter reportedly became active on the social media.
Adnan is said to be operating the Twitter handle @AdnanDamudi and is reportedly influenced by the controversial Daesh supporter Robert Musa Cerantonio from Australia.
“He had radicalised four youth from Hyderabad, who fled their homes to go to Syria but were detained by the police near Malda in West Bengal and taken back to Hyderabad. According to the boys, Adnan is very convincing and a glib talker,” the officer added.
