On being chased, the shocked fishermen began to return to shore, but the Lankan Navy personnel allegedly smashed one of the boats belonging to one Praveen and damaged it badly, they said.

KANYAKUMARI : A fishermen from Kovalam in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari district has gone missing after he reportedly fell into the deep sea off the Quatif coast in Saudi Arabia, Mr Justin Antony, founder-president of International Fishermen Development Trust (INFIDET), a UN registered International NGO based here, said on Saturday.

Xavier, aged 45, son of Innaci from Kovalam in the district had gone for fishing with his colleagues in a boat, belonging to one Abbas of Saudi Arabia on January 25, Mr Antony said in a release from Kanyakumari.

However, Xavier, while returning to the shore in Saudi on January 28 was found missing, he said and urged the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa to take necessary steps to trace the missing fisherman as his family members back
home were deeply worried.
