Bidar bandh: BJP MP Bhagvanth Khuba injured

People carry an injured man after police lathicharged members of various organisations protesting against the murder of a girl, Pooja, in Bhalki taluk of Bidar on Tuesday.

At least a dozen people including the Bidar Lok Sabha Member Bhagvanth Khuba received minor injuries during bandh called by various organisations including the BJP in protest against the alleged rape and killing of a college girl by a youth who had an affair with her. Pooja Hadpad of Kosam village in Bhalki taluk, who was studying in Bidar City was killed by Shamusuddin by slitting her throat after she allegedly spurned his proposal to marry her. The body of the girl was found in a forest area near Myloor. On Tuesday, all shops and other business establishments remained closed since morning in Bidar City, Bhalki and also Basavakalayana towns. There was a skirmish when some youth tried to force the closure of shops in the Old City area.

The police had to resort to a mild lathicharge the disperse the crowd. Later a large number of people including the MP gathered at the Ambedkar Circle and tried to take out a procession. But the police tried to dissuade them from taking it out. When the protesters did not heed the advice of the police , the cops resorted to a lathicharge to disperse the crowd.
