Vijayawada: The Centre has agreed to assign the Polavaram project spillway and spill channel works to Navayuga Constructions.

In the meeting held on Tuesday in Delhi, Union water resources ministry had taken a decision under Section 60C that it was handing over the construction works to Navayuga Constructions after  the failure of the main contractor Transstroy to complete the works in a specified time.

With the Centre giving the   green signals in a week or so, the AP government has to sign an MoU with Navayuga on the Polavaram project spillway and spill channel works. All the rules and regulations will be incorporated in the MoU, while Navayuga acts as the main contractor in the spillway and spill channel construction works, where the dismissed Transstroy can’t even be a sub-contractor.

Though Union water resources minister Nitin Gadkari gave one-month to Trans-stroy, it failed to accelerate the works, leading to the change in the contractor.
