Police can grill Nathuram over jewellery heist: Court

The police also need to take the accused to Rajasthan and other states and sought 10-day custody of the accused.

The XIII Metropolitan Magistrate S Gopinath granted the 10-day police custody of and directed the Rajamangalam police to produce them before the court again on February 9.

Chennai: The XIII Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Egmore at Allikulam has granted permission to police to grill for 10 days Nathuram Jat, prime accused in the daring robbery at a gold jewellery smithy in Kolathur in November 2017. Nathuram and his gang members Dinesh Choudhury and Buddaram were brought to the Egmore court from Puzhal prison with tight security.

According to the prosecution, the accused were arrested in Rajasthan and Gujarat recently and immediately after bringing them to Chennai they were detained at Puzhal prison.  The Rajamangalam police had no opportunity to interrogate and to obtain complete details regarding the heist, in which 3.5-kg gold and 4 kg silver jewellry and Rs 2 lakh in cash were robbed.

Besides, the police needed to obtain more information from them on whether they had committed similar or any other offences in the State and involvement of others in these incidents.
