Kalburgi murder: Police to submit chargesheet soon
Very strong common links with Gauri murder case, says Praveen Sood.
Bengaluru: There's significant breakthrough in the Investigation of noted Kannada litterateur M.M. Kalburgi assassinate case. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will shortly submit the chargesheet against the accused in the sensational murder case, said Director General of Police, CID, Praveen Sood. "We have collected some good evidence in the Prof. Kalburgi murder case and will shortly be submitting the chargesheet against the accused in
the court. We have also informed the honourable Supreme Court that we will be filing the chargesheet soon," said Mr. Sood. Prof. Kalburgi was murdered point blank at his house by an unknown assassin on August 30, 2015 in Dharwad. His assassins are also allegedly accused of murdering editor-activist Gauri Lankesh outside her house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Bengaluru on September 5, 2017.
The first leads in the Kalburgi murder case came during the investigation in Gauri assassination case. The ballistic report submitted by the Forensic Science Laboratory, Madiwala confirmed that the same contraband pistol of 7.65mm bore was used in both the murder cases. "There are very strong common links in the two murder cases; of Kalburgi and Gauri. The Investigation team in the two cases largely comprises the same set of officers," said DGP, CID. The Supreme Court on January 25 observed that the four murder cases; of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar in Pune, Comrade Govind Pansare in Kolhapur, Kalburgi and Gauri are part of a very serious case. The court has also said that on February 26 it would hear in detail the petition filed by Prof Kalburgi's wife Umadevi, who has sought a special investigation team inquiry in her husband's murder.
It is reliably learnt that Ganesh Miskin, Amit Baddi, Rajesh Bangera, Amit Degwekar and Amol Kale, who are accused of alleged involvement in the Gauri case are of interest in Kalburgi murder case as well. They were arrested last year by the Karnataka Special Investigation Team, which was formed to investigate Gauri murder case. The SIT has submitted the chargesheet in the case.
