Hyderabad: A petition was moved before the Telangana High Court on Wednesday requesting that the election to the post of sarpanch of Timmareddy Gudem in Nalgonda district be termed illegal. The petitioner, M. Ram Reddy, a local resident, alleged that the post had been auctioned for Rs 8 lakh.

Mr Ram Reddy told the court that the bidding started at Rs 5 lakh and was finalised at Rs 8 lakh.

The petitioner alleged that a auction was announced by a ‘dandora’.

He said he had complained to government about the auction but no one responded. He said that the announcement was made to tell voters that liquor and food would be provided by the highest bidder for the sarpanch post.

The petitioner sought directions from the court to the district authorities to conduct an inquiry regarding the issue and declare the election of the sarpanch post as illegal in Timmareddy Gudem.
