Chennai: The topography of the Habibullah Road, T. Nagar, is all set to change on Friday with the Nadigar Sangam - South Indian Cine Artistes' Association (SICAA)'s assurance on new office premises for its members turning into reality with the laying of the foundation.

Actors Rajini and Kamal will head the long list of over 3,000 artistes who would be handing over a brick each for the construction of the new office.

Confirming the participation of the two actors, SICAA’s president Naseer said the office with numerous facilities will come up at a total cost of Rs 31 crore and it is expected to be completed in about 11 months’ time. “We hope to have the inauguration in September 2018…. several actors have promised to help us in completing this project,” he said.

This signifies the assurance made by the Nadigar Sangam committee led by actor Nassar and actor-producer Vishal (general secretary) during the office bearers' election. The new office will come up on the sprawling 19-ground area on Habibullah Road in the bustling commercial T. Nagar.

Speaking to this correspondent on Thursday he said the complex would have an auditorium with 900 seating capacity, a marriage hall capable of accommodating 800 persons besides another marriage hall for its members (capacity to hold 300). An office room, artiste training academy and amphitheatre will also be built.

Recently, the Nadigar Sangam committee expressed its relief over completion of plans and expressed keenness to look forward to this journey. Both Nasser and Vishal stated that they were glad to have received the support of so many of their members.

“We would also like to express our deep gratitude towards Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan for agreeing to come for the ceremony,” they said.
