Bengaluru: Weather turned gloomy on Friday with many parts of the city experiencing a sudden thunderstorm and even hail storm. Complaints of tree were reported from different parts of the city and many areas witnessed bumper to bumper traffic.
Some of parts of Marathahalli, Whitefield and Anekal witnessed hailstorms. The rains brought respite from soaring temperature.An auto drivers had a narrow escape when a tree got uprooted at Malleswaram. Complaints of tree fall were also reported from Nandini Layout and Yeshwantpur. The rains are likely to continue for the next two days.
Pre-monsoon shower
Until 8.30 pm on Friday city has received 44 mm of rainfall in March. “Pre-monsoon showers have set in early. Not just Bengaluru, Kolar, Chikkamagaluru, Tumakuru, Haveri and Chitradurga districts also received good rain,” said L Ramesh Babu, scientist, Met department.
“There is upper air cyclone circulation in Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal which will bring rain in Karnataka. Heavy rain is expected in the state, including Bengaluru, till April 7,” said Srinivasa Reddy, director, Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre.
BBMP commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad monitored the situation by sitting at the BBMP control room. He also attended to complaints and deputed the team carry out repair works.
