BENGALURU: In a yet another case of brazen attack on women in the city, a 42-year-old woman suffered a machete attack by a bike-borne man in K.R. Puram on Tuesday night.
Police have identified the victim as Lumina, a resident of Pai Layout and a pastor at Bethany Church in T.C. Palya.
She was attacked on her head and hands and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Her condition is said to be out of danger.
The Mahadevapura police have registered a case of attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy and arrested the victim’s husband,
Prem Kumar (45), his paramour Monica (23), and her brother Rohit Kumar (24), all residents of K.R. Puram.
According to police, Lumina and Prem were married for eighteen years and had three children. A few years ago Lumina suspected that her husband was having an affair.
Later when her suspicion turned out to be true, she separated with her husband and began staying near her uncle’s house in Pai Layout. Their divorce case was being heard by a family court, the police added.
On Tuesday, around 10.45 pm, when Lumina was walking towards her uncle’s apartment to take one of her children home, she was waylaid and attacked.
A few passersby rushed to her help, informed the police and shifted her to a nearby hospital. The police rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary inquiry.
They found that Monica’s brother Rohit had urged Prem to marry his sister as they both were in a relationship. Prem had said it would not happen till Lumina was alive. The police suspect the three had conspired to finish her off and
Rohit attempted to murder Lumina. Mahadevpura police is investigating the case.
