English coaching for Tamil Nadu government college students

Chennai: Higher education minister K.P. Anbalagan on Wednesday announced that the Tamil Nadu government would impart skills in English to students studying in government arts and science colleges with the assistance of British Council. 

Replying to the debate on the grants for his department, the minister said that the statewide programme 67,000 students in 91 government arts and science colleges would be benefited during the fifth and sixth term of their college. He also noted that a grant of Rs 25 crore research funds given per year to 13 universities in Tamil Nadu.

Further, he said about 80 colleges would get their buildings and compound walls repaired and new computers would be procured for 62 government colleges. To enhance academics and promote science, awards for best teachers and rural innovation awards for innovators would be given. Also, a district science centre would be inaugurated at Kanyakumari. 

The government educational institutions will also get new watchmen, sweepers, assistants and sanitary workers will be filled and '6.10 crore has been allotted for the purpose, the minister added.

Assembly desertedChennai: The Assembly was deserted on Wednesday as the entire Opposition en masse boycotted the proceedings even as state ministers for higher and school education had their reply to demands seeking grants. "CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami has exposed DMK on Sterlite. 

The opposition DMK was instrumental in setting up the Sterlite plant. DMK has lost sleep and is planning to create divide in Tamil Nadu", said D. Jayakumar responding to the boycott of DMK. DMK, Congress and IUML MLAs also took part in the event.

Meanwhile R. K Nagar MLA TTV Dhinakaran on Wednesday urged the opposition DMK to participate in the Assembly proceedings as public voted for them to represent them.
