Suriya’s NGK 215 feet cutout in Tiruttani removed
With Suriya\'s upcoming film - NGK - set to hit the screens on Friday, fans of the actor went all out to make it a special event.
Chennai: Actor Suriya's record-breaking 215 feet cut out was removed by municipal officers at Tiruttani on Thursday.
With Suriya's upcoming film - NGK - set to hit the screens on Friday, fans of the actor went all out to make it a special event. According to sources, members of the Suriya Fans association erected India's largest cut-out for their favourite actor, standing at a whopping 215 feet, despite the Madras HC's order not to erect banners for persons who are alive.
While it might be a proud moment for his fans, it is a fact that there are cases of cut-outs falling on fans or fans falling down from a height and succumbing to their injuries.
In October 2014, a tragic incident took place in Palakkad during the celebrations of the release of Vijay's Kaththi when a man fell down from the star's flex while performing 'milk abhishekam'. Earlier this year during the release of Ajith's Viswasam at a theatre in Villupuram, the star's
cut-out came tumbling down when fans started climbing on it, grievously injuring three.
In 2017, the Madras High Court banned such displays and asked government to ensure that “photos or pictures of such persons who are alive shall not be depicted by way of banners, flex boards, signboards.”
Meanwhile, the Tiruthanni Municipality authorities removed the 215 feet cut-out on Thursday. Speaking about this, a member of the Suriya Fans association said, “We had sought prior permission from the town municipality and made the cut-out for ` 6 lakh. The municipality was the one who gave us permission to erect it,” he said.
