Bengaluru: As the dengue scare hits the city, the citizens are worried that the BBMP is not doing enough to curb the mosquito menace. Despite repeated complaints from the residents of Defence Colony since May, the officials have not taken action and fumigated the area which is necessary to contain the mosquito menace. “Every alternate house in our area has someone suffering from dengue. It got worse after the monsoon started. There have been two dengue deaths so far. We requested Health Officer Veda months ago to take up fogging activity. She promised to arrange for it, and the contractor came to our area, but said he had not been paid. He did fogging only once that was only because we forced him to. He has not returned after that,” complained Mr Akshay Mallappa, Secretary, Defence Colony Residents’ Welfare Association. Frustrated residents have taken it upon themselves to arrange for fogging.

“We have paid Rs 35,000 from our pockets to source the fogging machine, medicine and a man to do it once in three days. Dengue cases have reduced now,” he said.
