Expo step towards setting up Kalam knowledge centre: Arvind Kejriwal
Arvind Kejriwal said the memorial was set up in a record three months.
NEW DELHI: An exhibition of personal belongings of late President A. P. J. AbdulKalamwas inaugurated at Dilli Haat here on Saturday by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who assured that this is just the first step towards establishing a “world-class” Knowledge Centre in honour of the “man most loved by all”.
Months after the personal belongings of Dr Kalam, including his books, his favourite veena and manuscripts, were packed away to his town Rameswaram by the Central Government, the most treasured valuables of the People’s President is back in the capital for the common man, for whom he had opened the gates of the magnificent Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Inaugurating the exhibition in the presence of family members of Dr Kalam, Mr Kejriwal, whose government played a proactive role in bringing back the belongings to the capital, said the memorial was set up in a record three months.
“This is just the first step towards setting up the Knowledge Centre in memory of Dr Kalam to realize solutions for the problems of the world. We will soon have a full-fledged Knowledge Centre that will allow research by youth from across the world,” Mr Kejriwal said.
He was responding to a suggestion made by Deccan Chronicle's Executive Editor R. Bhagwan Singh that the Delhi government should build a full-fledged Knowledge Centre to enable youth from across the world to converge there.
“They would be able to use Dr Kalam's books.
The Centre would inspire many,” Mr Singh suggested. The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of Mr Singh in his efforts to have a Knowledge Centre in memory of the late President in the capital.
The Delhi government had come forward to construct a Knowledge Centre after Mr Singh launched a petition on global platform Change.org demanding that Dr Kalam’s official bungalow be converted into a Knowledge Centre.
