Tech colleges' plea rejected by Hyderabad High Court
All the private colleges shall remit the amount to the JNTU.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has turned down appeals by private autonomous engineering colleges seeking quashing of a government order directing them to collect Rs 1,500 per annum from each engineering student during the course. The amount shall be remitted to the JNTU, Hyderabad. The court, while dismissing the appeals, made it clear that all the private colleges shall remit the amount to the JNTU.
The single judge held that the colleges cannot be aggrieved parties because when they collected fee from the students, they are supposed to remit it to the University as per the GO. The college managements, in their appeals, told the court that they had not collected the Rs 1,500 from the students. The JNTU refuted the contentions, saying that the colleges were liable to remit the amount since it was extending services to all the autonomous institutions within its jurisdiction. According to officials, the JNTU will receive Rs 150 crore in view of High Court rejecting the plea of the managements of the colleges.
