Traffic stuck all over, 7 cm rain in Malkajgiri
Hyderabad has recorded above normal rainfall for the month following Saturday's rainfall, officials said.
Hyderabad: Malkajgiri received about 7 cm of rainfall in a 24-hour period, the highest in the city, followed by Mamidipally and Quthbullapur, according to the GHMC. The rain was recorded from from 8.30 pm of Friday to 8.30 pm of Saturday.
Elsewhere, rain lashed the city early on Saturday following by drizzle throughout the afternoon and another downpour during the office hours.
Over the last four days, the downpour has been most experienced early in the morning and in the early evening hours. The rain inundated main roads, low lying colonies and main junctions.
Waterlogging caused by rain in front of the Chief Minister’s camp office resulted in traffic moving at a snail’s pace from Begumpet to Punjagutta and from Green lands to Khairatabad.
The situation was not different on other main roads. There was traffic jam that stretched for over 2 km from Ameerpet to Erragadda due to waterlogging at the Sarathi studios junction.
Traffic jams occurred on almost all the flyovers in the city with motorists taking flyovers to avoid traffic jams on the road below. Though potholes were filled up on many roads by GHMC staff, it did not help smoothen the flow of traffic.
The evening rain played spoilsport with some of those venturing out on Necklace Road while others enjoyed their outing in the rain.
Hyderabad has recorded above normal rainfall for the month following Saturday’s rainfall, officials said. The norm for July is 19 cm.
