Swachh internship a big hit with many youngsters
The programme began on July 14 and the first activity that involved SHIP interns actually working on the ground was at Charminar.
Hyderabad: About 80 per cent of participants who have signed on to the Swachh Hyderabad Internship Programme (SHIP) started by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation are youth.
A total of 1,836 members have registered for the programme and about 400 have taken part in SHIP activities, among whom 350 were students and women from the IT sector.
The programme began on July 14 and the first activity that involved SHIP interns actually working on the ground was at Charminar.
The most recent activity was held at Neknampur lake, where the interns were assigned to clean the water body. Among the participants were many engineers and students from professional courses apart from IT employees. Most of the waste that was collected from the Neknampur comprised plastic covers, bottles and other wastes.
The GHMC provides SHIP interns with a certificate. Officials said that the participants can use the certificates in their offices as a proof of their social work. Such internships will increase the opportunity for people to participate in service-oriented programmes, thereby increasing awareness.
The next internship will be held on August 4, where interns will be asked to take part in the Haritha Haram programme. The internship programme will end on October 2.
