Chennai: Students devise e-biometric voting machine

Chennai: Aiming to offer a pragmatic solution to ensure hundred percent voting during elections, three students of K. Ganapathy Government Higher Secondary School at Kodambakkam here have invented a unique e-biometric voting system.
The gadget which has finger print sensor and retina scanner, gathers particulars of the voters from the Aadhaar card.
“One need not visit the polling station to exercise the franchise, if this system is introduced. A person in Chennai can cast the vote in his or her home constituency without physically visiting the polling booth,” the boys explained.
The e-biometric voting system has been invented keeping in mind the predicament of voters who migrate to State headquarters or other places for employment and often find it difficult to return to their hometowns to cast the votes.
“This problem will be solved now. A person working in Chennai can vote for the candidate contesting in Kanyakumari district, without even undertaking a visit to the district, by merely accessing our system,” Jebin, Jayachandran and Pradeep Kumar explained.

The novel voting system was invented as part of the Atal Tinkering Labortories (ATLs), an initiative of the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog), Government Of India.
School education minister K. A. Sengottaiyan and Chief Educational Officer R. Thiruvalarselvi, lauded the students for their pioneering approach to enhance the voter turnout during polls.
