Rajahmundry: Noted Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham deferred 'Chalo Amaravati' rally till Dec. 6 in a bid to give some time to the state government to bring out a legislation providing reservation to Kapus in backward class communities.
The Kapu JAC meeting was held under the aegis of Mr Padmanabham at Kirlampudi in East Godavari on Wednesday. Addressing the leaders, Padmanabham said that as Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had assured to pass a resolution in the Assembly to provide reservation to Kapus in BC list and send it to the Centre to carry out an amendment to the relevant constitutional provision in two months period, they intend to give three months to the state government to do so.
Referring to the criticism from the state government that the Kapu leader is indulging in dramatics, he said, "I'm committed to take up the protest in a peaceful manner, and also adhering to the guidelines issued by the police."
Only to prove his sincerity and commitment towards Kapu reservations issue, he took out the rally and walked for about seven km even as nearly 5,000 police personnel were deployed to thwart the padayatra. He advised the CM not to go by false reports about his rally from the intelligence authorities.
He said that nearly 25,000 followed him during the rally and found fault with the police for asking especially the women to come to the police station to give statement.
The Kapu leader also said that by Dalit icon Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on December 6, the reservation issue need to be resolved.
