Bengaluru: Popular playback singer, composer and classical musician, L.N. Shastry (46), passed away here on Wednesday. He was recently diagnosed with cancer, which was in its final stages.

The talented singer and composer started his musical journey with Ajagajantara in 1996 along with S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, as a playback singer.

He was closely associated with composers - Nadabramha Hamsalekha and V. Manohar. His popular song 'Kolumande Jangama Devaru...' composed by Manohar picturised on Shivarajkumar for the film Janumada Jodi won him state film award for best male playback singer category.

He has 3,000 songs to his credit, and has composed music for at least 25 films starting from Kanasalu Neene Manasalu Neene. He initially sang for films starting Navasara Nayaka Jaggesh, and later worked for Crazy Star V. Ravichandran.

He had even involved in producing a couple of films, and recently as one of the executive producer for the film Melody which starred another popular singer Rajesh Krishnan in the lead.
