BENGALURU: SIT officials investigating the assassination of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh, on Thursday questioned a man from Belagavi for his suspected role in the killing. The man, identified as Sagar Lakhe, was picked up by the SIT as his name surfaced during the interrogation of Bharath Kurne , one of the arrested accused, SIT sources said.

Kurne runs a hotel and is also a vegetable trader. He was arrested by SIT on August 8 from Mahadwar Road. Sources said Lakhe was in constant touch with Kurne over phone after Gauri killing. They also hinted that Lakhe may be made an important witness.

However, M.N. Anucheth, Chief Investigating Officer of the SIT, said, “ Lakhe has not been taken in custody, or arrested or detained. He was asked to come for an inquiry which he complied. He was questioned in SIT office at CID on Thursday.”
It is learnt that Kurne was brought to the city for investigation recently and had named Lakhe.
