Kochi: Victims to get aid money in 4 days

Kochi: The district administration will distribute the Rs 10,000 “immediate compensation” to all flood-hit victims in four days as the data entry process is progressing fast.

“Data entry is going on. It will take three to four more days for granting the compensation to all the eligible victims,” collector Muhammed Y. Safirullah said.

The state government had earlier announced an “immediate compensation” of Rs 10,000 to those whose houses suffered damages in flood or landslides and cannot reside in them in the present condition. They should have spent at least two days in relief camps. Flood-affected people at most of the relief camps have started complaining against the delay in transferring the amount into their bank accounts.  “The Paravur taluk has suffered huge damage in terms of loss of property. However, none has received compensation so far,” said Jalaja Raveendran, Paravur municipality standing committee chairperson.

“We’ve started distribution of compensation in most-affected areas where almost all houses got inundated. For instance, a total of 255 families at Kuttikattukara in Eloor municipality were handed over the financial aid. They can utilise the same for urgent repair works and return from relief camps at the earliest. Such people can avail free service of technicians provided by us,” said a district administration official who visited the houses at the region on Thursday.

“The amount has already been handed over to ward levels. The same are being distributed to flood-affected as and when data entry activities (like name of family members, extend of damage to their houses) get completed,” he said.

The finance department has already deposited Rs 242.72 crore in bank accounts of all 14 district collectors to be handed over to the affected people. The Ernakulam collector was allotted the highest amount of Rs 98 crore.

Mobile clinics in flood hit areas from today

The health department will open mobile clinics in the 42 marooned panchayats and eight municipalities in the district on Friday for the flood victims.

The clinics will start operating in the government health centres and will provide service at doorstep in areas with limited access. These clinics will have facilities similar to an outpatient section of a health centre.

The health department has been expanded with additional staff including more doctors and nurses to provide doorstep service to ensure treatment and care to bedridden patients and persons with lifestyle diseases. Bedridden patients will be given palliative care for which 85 teams of nurses have been deployed.

In case of patients who missed regular course of medicines, primary healthcare centres will give follow-up treatment and drugs.
