Bengaluru: A notorious rowdy, wanted in the murder of a 33-year-old cab driver who was stabbed to death with broken beer bottles in J.P. Nagar on Saturday night, was shot at and arrested by the Tavarakere police after he assaulted a police constable to evade arrest.
The accused, Renuka Prasad alias Kudure (28), is now in police custody. He was one of the accused in the murder of Suneel Kumar and was absconding since Saturday, while two other accused – Vivek (28), a rowdy sheeter, and his associate Akhilesh (22) – have already been arrested by the JP Nagar police.
Prasad who was in jail came out a week ago and murdered Suneel. He is involved in several murder and attempt to murder cases, including a double murder, in the RMC Yard police limits.
In fact, Prasad was caught for a dacoity and assault case near Chandrappa Circle in Tavarakere police limits on Thursday night. During the interrogation, the police established his role in Suneel’s murder.
Magadi Circle Inspector Ravi Kumar R.G., who opened fire at the accused, said that the Tavarakere police received information about a dacoity in a bar by a gang who later assaulted two men.
A police team, led by Kumar, traced the gang leader Prasad in a lodge in Manjunath Nagar in Kumbalgodu police limits. When Police Constable Huliraya went to arrest the accused, Prasad assaulted him with a sharp weapon nine times, prompting Kumar to open fire at him.
Later, Prasad was taken into custody and shifted to Victoria Hospital for treatment while constable Huliraya was admitted to Apollo Hospital where he underwent treatment and is said to be out of danger.
A case was registered at the Tavarakere police station and further investigations are underway.
