Vijayawada: State to implement water grid scheme in three phases

The Chief Minister said that Uddanam Water project should cover the entire Srikakulam district.

VIJAYAWADA: With an aim to supply safe drinking water to the people, the government will implement Water Grid Scheme in three phases.

During a review meeting held here on Friday, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed the officials from Andhra Pradesh Drinking Water Supply Corporation (APDWSC) to expedite works to implement the Water Grid Scheme in three phases and ensure that clean drinking water is supplied to the people.

The Chief Minister said that Uddanam Water project should cover the entire Srikakulam district. Under the Water Grid Scheme, the first phase should be implemented in Srikakulam, East Godavari, West Godavari and Prakasam districts.

“In the second phase, Vizianagaram, Visakha-patnam, Rayalaseema areas should be covered, while Krishna, Guntur and Nellore districts should be covered in the third phase for supplying safe drinking water,” he said.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to supply safe drinking water directly from the treatment plants to the homes of the people with kidney ailments in Uddanam. The Chief Minister also told that measures should be taken to prevent contamination of drinking water storage tanks and summer storage tanks.

Panchayati raj and rural development minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, district collectors of two Godavari districts, and officials from the APDWSC were present in the review meeting.
