Thiruvananthapuram: CPM meet backs Sandeepananda Giri's ashram
The CPM leader said those behind the attack were resorting to mindless violence in the name of faith.
Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Tuesday demanded im-mediate arrest of those behind the attack on the Sandeepananda Giri’s ashram at Kundamankadavu. At a public meeting organised by LDF at Kundamankadvu, Kodiyeri said the attack was part of Sangh Parivar conspiracy to silence those speaking against communal hatred. The conspirators should be traced and brought to justice, he said.
The CPM leader said those behind the attack were resorting to mindless violence in the name of faith. Anyone exposing their communal agenda is being targeted. The abuses showered on Devasw-om Recruitment Board chairman Rajagopalan Nair, devaswom board member K.P. Shankardas, attack on the houses of women who attempted to visit Sabarimala and the protest march taken to the houses of police officers exposed the Sangh Parivar’s intolerance.
Kodiyeri said such attacks can happen on anyone and it was the duty of each citizen to unite and fight against communal forces. “All communities live harmoniously in the state. But these forces want to create Gujarat model communal flare up. People should guard against such attempts,” he said.
The CPM state secretary came down heavily on the Congress for adopting a dual stand on the Saba-rimala issue. AICC president Rahul Gandhi stated on Tuesday that his party was for equal rights for women and entry of wom-en in temple.
However, the KPCC has taken a divergent position. “Is Rahul Gandhi their national pr-esident or Rahul Easwar ,” he asked.
Kodiyeri said the LDF Government was committed to social justice. The government had ensured appointment of dalits and backwards as temple priests. “Our government will continue with such affirmative actions,” he said.
The meeting was addr-essed by CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran, CPM district secretary Anavoor Nagappan, KTDC chairman M Vijayakumar. Similar protest meetings were organised by LDF in other places.
