Hyderabad: Commuters are being charged for parking their vehicles at the Miyapur Metro Rail station.

The supervisor of the parking facility at Miyapur station said, “We started charging commuters from Friday. Two-wheelers are being charged Rs 5 for the first two hours and Rs 2 for every additional hour. We are charging four-wheelers Rs 12 for the first two hours, and Rs 6 for every additional hour.”

A Hyderabad Metro Rail official said this was a temporary arrangement done by L&T and the contracting firm which handles the parking.

HMR managing director N.V.S. Reddy said, “These prices are a temporary arrangement to recover the initial maintenance costs by L&T and contractor. We have not decided or finalised the parking rates.”

Since this is a temporary arrangement, people have to pay in cash and carry small change. HMR will be soon inviting tenders for automated smart parking with colour codes for each mode of transport.
