Hyderabad: If you are resident in the precincts of the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate, and have lost some property, the chances of its recovery are only just above 50 per cent.

The chance of any crime being detected is also poor and the chances of being looted by burglars and robbers is high compared to residents living in Hyderabad and Rachakonda Police Commissionerates, according to police data.

There was a 21 per cent decrease in crime in Cyberabad in 2018 compared to the previous year (21,255 crimes), but when it came to catching the offenders and recovering the property, the record was poor.

According to the data revealed by the police on Saturday, in 2017, about 279 robberies, 816 burglaries and 93 offences of chain snatching, and 813 cases of theft of parked vehicles, took place in the limits of 37 police stations that come under the Cyberabad Commissionerate. This year there were 155 robberies, 650 burglaries and 63 incidents of chain snatching and 672 cases of vehicle theft.

Cyberabad police say that even with a force of just 3,819, which is much less than that of the Hyderabad and Rachakonda commissonerates, the overall crime rate has reduced by 21 per cent.

The Rachakonda police commissionerate with 44 police stations reported 72 robberies, 910 burglaries, 144 snatchings and 736 cases of vehicle theft last year. In 2018, there were 73 robberies, 400 burglaries, 72 cases of chain snatching and 577 cases of vehicle theft.

The incidents of crime were comparatively much lower in Hyderabad. In 2017, there were 133 robberies, which decreased to 100 in 2018. There were 399 cases of burglary in 2017 which fell to 286 this year. Chain snatching offences came down to 20 in 2018 from 53 in 2017, and vehicle thefts decreased from 611 to 889 cases.to 611 from 889 last year.

Hyderabad police claim the reduction in the number of crimes committed was due to the massive drive to install CCTV cameras in residential and commercial places across the city.

In Rachakonda, 54 per cent of burglary, chain snatching etc crimes were detected and 62 per cent of property recovered. In Hyderabad, police cracked 60 per cent of cases and recovered 86 per cent of the stolen property.
