Hyderabad: The BRS on Tuesday demanded a thorough inquiry into the granting of liquor licences, especially in the wake of “flip-flops by excise minister Jupally Krishna Rao on the issue of Som Distilleries.”

Party leader Manne Krishank told reporters that when the BRS had highlighted “corruption in granting licence to the company,” Krishna Rao had backtracked on the decision to grant a licence to Som Distilleries and cancelled the earlier orders. Krishank said the cancellation was not enough but an inquiry must be conducted into how a permit was granted in the first place to a “fraudulent” company “with a questionable record of safety.”

He claimed that Krishna Rao was caught “red-handed” in the episode, and alleged that Som Distilleries had funded the Congress.
