CPM Ch. Babu Rao Wants Family Compensated for Dirty Water Death
Vijayawada: CPM leader Ch. Babu Rao has highlighted that over 100 residents of Moghalrajpuram and surrounding areas are suffering from diarrhoea after drinking the contaminated water supplied last week by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC). One person has also succumbed to the illness.
The CPM leader visited on Tuesday the family of Valluru Durga Rao, who had died after consuming the piped water supplied by the civic body.
Speaking on the occasion, Babu Rao pointed out that several persons of Moghalrajpuram had to be admitted to various private and government hospitals for treatment.
He charged that the VMC took no action despite citizens complaining for last two months that the drinking water being supplied through pipes is contaminated. This had finally led to the death of a citizen.
The CPM leader underlined that the civic authorities seem more focused on installing smart water meters rather than ensuring that quality water is supplied to the citizens. He further demanded the civic body and government provide compensation to Durga Rao’s family and bear the medical expenses of those people who had been admitted to hospitals after drinking the contaminated water.
YSRC leader and Vijayawada East constituency MLA candidate Devineni Avinash has cautioned people of ward 6 and 7 to be wary of consuming drinking water supplied through water pipelines. He said the issue has been taken up with the concerned authorities and will be resolved at the earliest.
