Drunk on Duty, Odisha Headmaster Faces Action After Video Goes Viral
Bhubaneswar: The Block Education Officer (BEO) of Dharmasala, Odisha, has issued a show cause notice to a government primary school headmaster who allegedly showed up to school in an intoxicated state. The incident, which took place at a school in Anjira gram panchayat, has sparked outrage among parents and the local community.
The action was taken after the school's managing committee and concerned parents reported the matter to Dharmasala BEO Abhijit Barik. Their complaint was accompanied by damning evidence—a viral video showing the headmaster, clearly inebriated, lying on the road just a few yards from the school premises.
The shocking footage has fueled demands for immediate disciplinary action, with parents calling for the teacher's transfer to another institution, citing his repeated drunken behavior.
“This is unacceptable,” said one angry parent. “We send our children to school to learn, not to be exposed to this kind of conduct. We demand strict action.”
Responding to the complaint, BEO Barik issued a formal notice to the accused headmaster, giving him three days to respond.
“We are waiting for his reply. Once we receive it, appropriate action will be taken based on the findings,” said Barik. “
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. The district has seen similar cases in the past, with three teachers reported for coming to school drunk last year alone. Parents and local authorities alike are raising serious concerns over the growing trend and its negative impact on students.
As the investigation continues, the local community is watching closely, eager to see if justice will be served.
