Hyderabad: The under-construction bridge over Musi River connecting Amberpet and Musarambagh, which will put an end the decades-old commuting woes, is likely to be inaugurated by December.

The previous bridge at the spot connecting the two localities was low and would be inundated during heavy downpours when the water level in the river rose.

To address the issue, the GHMC is building the new bridge after demolishing the existing one, at a cost of Rs 52 crore. Construction of most of the foundations has been completed and works related to the piers are underway.

The new structure is 10 metres above the water, 400 metres long and 29.5 metres wide. The six-lane bridge will have 3.5-metre footpaths on either side.

Once completed, the new bridge will bring huge relief to commuters heading towards Dilsukhnagar, Nalgonda crossroads and other areas in the eastern and southern parts of the city via Amberpet and Musarambagh.

“Due to the land acquisition process and the rainy season ahead , the probable date of completion of this bridge is December, otherwise we can complete the project by October,” said a GHMC official.
