Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy urged the newly-constituted Telangana Real Estate Appellate Tribunal to strictly implement the provisions of the Telangana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TGRERA) in the state.

Tribunal chairperson Justice A Rajashekar Reddy, members Palle Pradeep Kumar Reddy (advocate) and retired IAS officer Chitra Ramchandran met the Chief Minister at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

The CM requested the tribunal members to ensure that the RERA Act was implemented effectively and thereby prevent property buyers from being duped by false promises of realtors.

The previous BRS government did not constitute the tribunal during its tenure although it was mandatory to set it up as per the RERA Act passed in 2016. A few individuals had approached the High Court against the BRS government's failure to establish the tribunal.

The Congress government which came to power in the state in December 2023, constituted the first-ever appellate tribunal in Telangana.

The Centre enacted the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act in 2016. Under this Act, the state government notified the Telangana Real Estate (Regulation & Development) Rules in 2017 for regulation and promotion of real estate sector in the state.
