Kolkata: TMC Showcauses Two Councillors Over Alleged Clash
Kolkata: Trinamul Congress has showcaused two of its councillors belonging to Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) after they allegedly clashed over the control of a party office in the city, leaving one of them injured. The two TMC councillors are Swaraj Mondal of ward no 110 and Tarakeshwar Chakraborty of ward no 104 of the KMC.
On Saturday their party vice president Joyprakash Majumdar said, “Unexpected behaviour of some councillors in KMC wards came to notice of the party recently. Our party has taken a firm stand against this.”
He added, “Our party disciplinary committee member Aroop Biswas, on the orders of our chief minister Mamata Banerjee and guidance of our leaders, Abhishek Banerjee and Subrata Bakshi, sent showcause notices to Mr Mondal and Mr Chakraborty on Friday night. Both have been asked for explanations for damaging the party image to some extent.”
The clash took place on June 18 night when Mr Mondal went to sit at a TMC party office at Patuli area. Mr Chakraborty’s followers stopped him. When Mr Mondal ignored them, he was beaten up and suffered injuries on left ear. The TMC councillor was later treated at a hospital.
He alleged that the attackers were backed by Mr Chakraborty who is involved in anti social activities. Another TMC councillor, Pintu Debnath, who represents ward no 1 under Rajpur Sonarpur Municipality, was also assaulted while his party office was vandalised. He claimed that some local TMC workers, who were with BJP earlier, attacked him.
