Hyderabad: Achampet Congress MLA Ch Vamsi Krishna on Tuesday wrote to Director General of Police (DGP) Ravi Gupta seeking an investigation into the tapping of his mobile phone and action against police officers who intercepted his calls between 2019 and 2023.

Vamsi Krishna said that during the Assembly elections last year, his followers had complained that they were unable to hear him over the phone and there was audio disturbance. He said he had obtained inputs that his phone conversations were intercepted by the then SIB officers from their confession statements in the phone tapping case.

"Interception of phones is a violation of the rules and as well as the rights of the users. I request you to take action against police officers and political leaders who indulged in this,” Vamsi Krishna wrote.

Mahbubnagar MLA Yennam Srinivas told mediapersons at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday that the names of former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao's family members were coming out in connection with the phone tapping case. The then BRS government tapped phones of their own MLAs and ministers, he said.

Srinivas had lodged a complaint that his phones were tapped with DGP Ravi Gupta in March. "The BRS government brought equipment from abroad. We have information that the BRS MLCs invested money to purchase software for tapping the phones of Congress leaders and others,” he said on Tuesday.

Srinivas said: “BRS leaders have influenced the former SIB chief T. Prabhakar Rao and forced him to not return to Hyderabad. If Prabhakar Rao comes to the city, new developments will take place in the phone tapping case.”
