PM Modi to hold meetings today to review agenda for new Govt's 100-day programme

New Delhi: A day after exit polls predicted a sweep for the BJP and hours after his meditation at Kanniyakumari ended, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was back to chairing a host of meetings in the national capital. On Sunday, the Prime Minister stressed the need to ensure regular fire and electrical safety audits in hospitals and other public places as he reviewed the heat wave situation in the country amid fire incidents that have claimed many lives.

Mr Modi also chaired a host of meetings, including one on the post-Cyclone Remal situation, especially in the Northeast region and another to review the 100-day agenda of the new government to be sworn in after the Lok Sabha results are announced on June 4.

In the meeting to review the heatwave conditions in parts of the country, the Prime Minister was briefed that, as per IMD forecasts, the heat wave is likely to continue in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. This year, the monsoon is likely to be normal and above normal in most parts of the country. It will be below normal in parts of peninsular India.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed that proper drills for preventing and handling incidents of fire must be done on a regular basis and fire and electrical safety audits of hospitals and other public places must be undertaken regularly.

Sources said that the Prime Minister also said that regular drills for the maintenance of fire- lines in forests and the productive utilisation of biomass must be planned.

The Prime Minister was informed about the usefulness of the “van agni” portal in the timely identification of forest fires and their management.

In the meeting to review the post-Cyclone Remal situation, the Prime Minister was briefed about the impact of the cyclone in the affected states. The loss of human lives and damage to houses and properties due to landslides and floods in Mizoram, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura was also discussed.
The NDRF teams have been deployed as per needs. The teams have carried out evacuation, airlifting and road clearance operations. The Union home ministry is in regular touch with the state governments.

Sources said that the Prime Minister said that the Union government will continue to extend full support to the state affected by cyclone and instructed the Union home ministry to monitor the situation and review the matter regularly to extend necessary assistance for restoration.

Government sources said that the Prime Minister also chaired a meeting to review the preparations to celebrate World Environment Day, which falls on June 5, and another to review the 100-day agenda of the new government to be sworn in after the announcement of Lok Sabha poll results on June 4.
