Fifth-phase Lok Sabha polls pass off peacefully in 49 Parliament constituencies

New Delhi: The fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections covering 49 Parliament Constituencies (PCs) across eight States and Union Territories (UTs) apart from simultaneous polling for 35 Assembly Constituencies of Odisha Legislative Assembly passed off peacefully on Monday.

The polling percentage in these constituencies would be known later as voters were seen standing in queues before the completion of voting at 6 pm. The eight States and UTs where polling was conducted in the fifth phase were - Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. Polling was also conducted in cities like Mumbai, Thane and Lucknow in this phase, which in the past suffered from urban apathy in voting.

Until now, the Lok Sabha elections-2024 has seen the voter turnout at polling stations of about 66.95 per cent. Around 451 million people have already voted, during the first four phases of ongoing elections. Remaining phases of polls will continue till June 1 with counting of votes scheduled on June 4.

Polling for 23 States and UTs covering 379 PCs was completed in a smooth and peaceful manner in the first four phases of the elections so far.
