Vijayawada: Four people, including a minor, drowned in a stream at Bapatla on Wednesday.

Police identified the deceased as Sunil Kumar (35), Sunny (13), and Kiran and Nandu, both aged between 30–35 years. They are all residents of Kukatpally in Hyderabad. They drowned in the Nallamada stream after they got into it for a swim.

The bodies of Sunil Kumar and Sunny, father and son, have been fished out. Search operations are underway to retrieve the other two bodies.

Bapatla Rural circle inspector Y. Sri Hari said a group of 12 people belonging to two families from Kukatpally had come to the Surya Lanka beach for a vacation. On their way back, they stopped at the Nallamada stream and seven people got into the stream for a swim around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

A sea wave that entered the stream sucked in four people, resulting in their drowning. Bapatla police have registered a case.
