Govt calls non-resident Tamils to register with welfare board

Chennai:The State government has requested Tamils who have migrated to other States and foreign countries to become members of the Tamil Nadu Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Board and receive the welfare schemes of the Government.

Detailed information regarding the registration process and welfare schemes for Non-Resident Tamils (NRTs) are made available in the website https://nrtamils.tn.gov.in, an official press release said.

‘Migration of Tamils to foreign countries has recently increased for reasons like employment, education, business and other reasons. In order to ensure protection of the welfare of Tamils who have migrated to other countries and other states of India, “Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Board” was established as per the order of Chief Minister, M K Stalin and the Board implements many schemes for the welfare of Non Resident Tamils, the release said.

Non- Resident Tamils aged 18 to 55 years can register themselves on this commissionerate’s website (https://nrtamils.tn.gov.in) as members of the Board under any of two categories – NRTs living abroad and NRTs living in India - by paying a one-time registration fee of Rs.200.

‘To encourage membership registration, registration fee of Rs.200/- is waived for persons registering for an initial period of three months from 15.05.2024 to 15.08.2024,’ the release said.

The Identity Card that would be issued needed to be renewed every three years.

Those who register can benefit from the existing Insurance Schemes, theEducational Assistance Scheme and Marriage Assistance Scheme.
