Grillll-9 Owner in Police Net

Hyderabad: A delivery executive with a food-based app service, who misused the name of a popular restaurant and collected cash from the restaurant management, was arrested by the Karkhana police on Saturday.

The accused K. Sandeep, 32, of Balajinagar, used to deliver food orders placed late at night for a year.

Police said Sandeep opened a separate account for Grillll 9 on the food delivery app, mimicking the name of a restaurant located next to Karkhana police station. Sandeep used to collect money from Khaleel Ahmed alias Roshan, owner of Grill 9, claiming he had made deliveries.

Roshan detected the fraud when his accounts did not match up ,and called the police. The food delivery app has since removed Grilll 9 from its site, police said.

Customers were ordering food assuming it was cooked at the original Grill 9 but Sandeep was delivering food from other restaurants and also collecting weekly payment from the food app and the Grill 9 management, police claimed.

Police said the food app management did not physically interview Sandeep or verify his documents.

“We have arrested Sandeep. He confessed that during the day he was delivering through the food delivery app. Post-midnight he was taking orders on Grillll-9 and delivering food to customers from cloud kitchens, Karkhana sub-inspector Ravi Kumar said.

“We received a complaint from Khaleel Ahmed against Sandeep on May 23. He mentioned that Sandeep has managed to create Grillll-9 to deliver food orders. The complainant said he had reported to the food app that Grillll-9 did not belong to him. We too spoke to the app management, who immediately removed Grillll-9 from the list, They have assured that they will conduct an internal inquiry,” Ravi Kumar said.
