Hyderabad: In a freak fire mishap, cars parked in front of an apartment at Road No. 4, Banjara Hills, were gutted on Saturday, police said. The fire was so intense that firefighters had to be brought in to control it.

Police said that one of the cars that was parked in the centre of an unauthorised parking lot before Sarita Apartments caught fire and spread to other two cars parked beside it.

Locals alerted the Banjara Hills police who along with the firefighters went to the scene. The firefighters doused the blaze while the police stopped commuters on the road.

Police suspect foul play as for the past few days there were disputes over parking of vehicles between apartment residents and the locals.

“We are checking with the CCTV footage to see what exactly happened. If someone has deliberately done this we will take a stern action against them,” a police officer said.

Locals however maintained that a short circuit in the one of the cars had triggered the fire. Police registered a case and have commenced an investigation.
